The Portland State University Rearguard is a progressive, alternative publication. We support the right to live free of sexism, racism, classism, and homophobia. We exist to provide a voice for the unrecognized, oppressed, and marginalized at PSU and the greater world community. We believe in a democracy that is fueled by truth, parity and justice. We believe it is the people who will ultimately act to create a lasting, structural change. We believe that actions speak louder than words.

The Rearguard is published by the Student Publications Board of Portland State University. Opinions expressed are those of the Rearguard staff members, and not necessarily those of the Board of the University itself.

Student Using Gun as Visual Aid Puts Professor in Hot Water
Last Nov, a Portland State economics student gave a presentation on what he described as the U.S. military's flawed reliance on one of its key combat rifles. As a visual aid, the student disassembled parts of a Colt AR-15, a semiautomatic version of the military M-16. The professor didd't mention it and now everyone is "up in arms" about it.
